Hi, I’m James Vincent Brice —
I’m a PhD student at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI) studying the interaction between physical, biogeochemical and climatic processes in the coastal ocean. Before joining the MIT-WHOI Joint Program, I was an MIT Morningside Academy for Design Fellow where I investigated oyster reef hydrodynamics and the design of nature-based coastal adaptation, receiving master’s degrees in both Civil and Environmental Engineering and Architecture. I have professional experience in terrestrial and aquatic animal husbandry, working for years as a zookeeper in NYC after graduating from RPI with a B.S. in Applied Physics in 2016.
As a researcher, I combine my multidisciplinary perspective with methods in computational and observational oceanography to explore complex relationships between our oceans, climate, and the aquatic biosphere. As an educator, I strive to communicate these relationships through engaging scientific illustration and interactive media.
Bird-watching, physics, coffee with dessert; catch me crouched on the sidewalk taking pictures of weeds or poking around in tidepools.
